The Consortium for the Educational Advancement
of Travel Instruction (CEATI) was created to enhance
through education the knowledge and skills of those professionals
who are teaching travel skills to persons with disabilities and
seniors. CEATI pledges to provide skill development through in-service
courses and published papers. Members of the Board of Directors
include experienced practitioners in the fields of travel instruction
and orientation and mobility instruction. CEATI consists
of a dedicated group of professionals who believe in the right
of every individual to have freedom of movement to the maximum
degree possible and to be instructed by knowledgeable professionals
from the field of travel instruction.

The Consortium for the Educational Advancement of Travel Instruction
was incorporated in January 2007. The purposes of the Consortium
are to:

Conduct the activities of the Consortium exclusively for
educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3)
of the Internal Revenue Code;

Support and promote the continuing development of the academic
discipline and profession of travel instruction to enable persons
with mobility limitations to travel safely and independently.
The Consortium will pursue its purposes through the following
activities and other similar activities designed:

Encourage research and the publication of information that
will facilitate and promote travel by persons with mobility
limitations due to disabilities or aging;

Sponsor and organize conferences devoted to sharing research
and pedagogy related to the discipline of travel instruction
for persons with mobility limitations;

Develop and present continuing education programs for individuals
concerned with independent travel for persons with mobility
limitations;

Collaborate with other occupational and medical professionals
and professional organizations to develop and establish practice
standards for professional travel instructors;
-
Collaborate with other occupational and medical professionals,
professional organizations and colleges and universities to
develop accreditation standards for programs of instruction
for professional travel instructors and standards for the certification
of professional travel instructors.
